Introduction
For this week’s challenge, I’m asking you to build a viz I put together that visualises the the tennis career of the current men’s world #1 and 2026 Wimbledon champion, Jannik Sinner.
There’s a fair amount going on, so I appreciate this may take a while to completely replicate. If time is short, the key deliverable for this challenge is the central “ladder chart” that depicts, per tournament, the furthest round Sinner made it to.
Requirements
- Dashboard 1500 x 800
- Exclude Round Robin matches (Round = RR)
- Include ability to filter to Grand Slam tournaments only or all tournaments (Grand Slams are the Tournaments : Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon, US Open)
- Include ability to filter on the Surface the match was played on
- Level 0 : Ladder Chart
- Build a ladder chart that depicts per tournament, the latest round that was reached
- Colour based on the surface
- Indicate via a ‘star’ the tournaments which he won
- Display the names of the rounds on the chart
- Level 1 : Viz in Tooltip
- On hover on the ladder chart, show the details of the matches played int he whole tournament, listed in descending order with the latest match first.
- Level 2 : KPIs
- Build KPIs displaying
- Number of Tournaments played
- Number of Matches
- Number of Wins (the winner of the match is the person listed first in the Match field
- Number of Titles (ie winner of the final)
- No of Grand Slam titles
- Build KPIs displaying
- Level 3 – Strip Plot
- Add a strip plot that indicates when Sinner was ranked within the world’s Top 10 for the tournament.
- Ensure this aligns with the ladder chart when filters are applied
- Colour based on the ranking (the higher the rank, the darker the colour)
- Colour/style as you wish
