Introduction
What if a column chart could tell a story through color? A stripe chart uses colored stripes to reveal patterns and changes in data at a glance.
In this exercise, we’ll transform Power BI’s native column chart into a stripe chart where each stripe represents a data point, and its color helps us spot patterns, changes, and unusual values.
Same visual, a different way to see the data. Ready to give your column chart a makeover?
Dataset
The dataset is a single Excel file found on GitHub at:
https://github.com/SLakshmiP07/WorkoutWednesdayPowerBI/blob/main/Stripe%20Chart/GlobalTemp.xlsx

Requirements
Import the dataset into Power BI.
Create two measures
– For Equal stripe heights: Stripe Height = 1
– Temperature for color: Temp Anomaly = AVERAGE(GlobalTemp[Anomaly]Add a Clustered column chart. Place Year on the X-axis and Stripe Height on the Y-axis.
Format the stripes. Set the space between bars to 0% so the stripes touch. Turn off the Y-axis, gridlines, and data labels.
Apply the colors using conditional formatting. Set Gradient colors on the measure Temp Anomaly.
