#WOW2026 | Week 24 | Can you measure and visualize travel distance?

Introduction

The World Cup is in North America this month, and I saw a post showing the locations of national team training sites along with venues where games are being held, and the distance they were each travelling. I was curious if I could build something similar, and I was similarly curious how much each team was travelling during the group stage of the tournament. So we’re looking at the distance between training sites and game venues for each team and visualizing that on the map.

Requirements

Dashboard size: 1400×900
Create a point for each training site and venue, and draw a line for each of the 3 matches in group stage
Find the total distance between training site and venue for each match (I’ve only calculated one-way, not round-trip)
Create a bar chart showing the total distance for each country/team
Create a map showing all teams’ path from training site to venue, with the selected country highlighted. Highlighting a path on this map should show the country’s total distance for all 3 matches
Create a map filtered to the selected country’s path. Highlighting on this map should be individualized for each match, with match/opponent info and distance for that match
Create a card for each match, showing opponent, the overall match number from the schedule, date/time/location of the match, and miles from the training site
Create a header card showing the selected country, training site, and total miles travelled to game venues
Selecting a bar should change the selected country across all sheets in the dashboard
Use this opportunity to practice using containers, padding, and rounded corners

Available from here. You’ll use all 3 sheets/tabs, and I used Schedule twice (in addition to pivoting the Teams).
